Jacques Hitier (28 March 1917 – 5 March 1999) is a French interior architect and designer. He was also teacher and director of the Paris L’École Boulle, School for Fine Arts and Crafts and Applied Arts, from 1972 to 1982.
Jacques Hitier was one of the great artisans of collective and private furniture during the 50s and 60s with his now-famous pieces made of steel tubes.
A material he is the first to use as reinforcement and support for the furniture.
Schools, libraries, hospitals, hotels, restaurants … the furniture signed Hitier invests spaces to become, over time, essential.
Produced on an industrial scale, it is both modern and simple, functional and accessible.
For a long time “reserved” for communities, his creations will gradually become furniture for private interiors and real decorative objects.
